The earth's colors
... Anita Skinner
Where does the earth get it's colors?
Do the red tulips shine from the blood of those killed in senseless acts of others?
Are the pansies red with the blood of those who have died before their time?
Is the red clay of the earth filled with the blood of those who have taken their lives before their time,
forever locked in the drudge and pull of the earth?
Does the grass grow green with the ache of our hearts as our lives go on and those around us die?
Are the leaves green and then brown with the love we find and waste in our lives?
Is the green ivy on the buildings filled with our growing hopes and desires for the forbidden,
forever clinging our hearts to their limited surface?
Where does the earth get its colors?
Does the grey of the driveway reflect the despair in our souls?
Are the decaying buildings a symbol of our ability to love and hope?
Is the growing fields of grey in the graveyards the extend of our acceptance of the inevitability of our life,
that we will die & our lives will have added no color to this world except the grey of a headstone?
Where does the earth get its colors?
